Can a woman opt to have her baby be born in a caul?

Just curious. Is this something that a mother can ask for or is it just by chance? Also if this is something that you wanted, what are the chances that the doctor would comply?

You can certainly request that the doctor/midwife not break your water. But usually it will break on its own at some point before the baby is delivered. With all of my labors, my water broke on its own right before the head crowned (and I requested that it not be broken artificially). There is nothing unsafe about a baby being born in a caul, but it is pretty rare that it would happen.
